Works Undertaken by the Bhavan Rachna Department

(As per Section 63 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949 for essential duties and Section 66 for discretionary duties)

The operations of the Bhavan Rachna Department are carried out under the supervision of the Hon. Additional Municipal Commissioner (General) and the Hon. City Engineer.

1. Construction of New Buildings on reserved plots or amenity spaces acquired by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), for projects exceeding ₹25 lakh or 1,500 sq. ft. in area. These include:
   • PMC schools
   • Hospitals / Dispensaries
   • Vegetable markets / Wholesale markets / Fish markets
   • Theaters / Art galleries
   • Swimming pools and Sports complexes
   • Fire stations
   • Play grounds
   • Yoga centers / Recreation centers
   • Crematoriums / Burial grounds
   • Placemaking projects
   • Lighthouses, etc.
2. Construction of PMC office buildings, residential complexes, and commercial buildings, as well as redevelopment of PMC colonies and markets on a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) basis.
3. Beautification of statues and canopies, along with mural artwork.
4. Annual maintenance and repairs of:
   • PMC's main building
   • Residences of the Hon. Mayor, Hon. Municipal Commissioner, and all Hon. Additional Municipal Commissioners
     (Other mentioned structures maintenance and repairs are managed by respective zonal offices.)
5. Heritage conservation and restoration of historical structures owned by PMC and private properties, undertaken by the Heritage Cell under the Building Design Department.
6. Structural audits of all the above-mentioned buildings.
7. Project planning and execution, including:
   • Preparing cost estimates as per PMC's budget and available provisions from MLA/MP funds.
   • Completing the tender process.
   • Regular inspection of ongoing projects.
   • Ensuring timely and proper execution of the work.
8. Planning and co-ordination of Hon. Estimate Committee meetings.
