<p>The Metropolitan Surveillance Unit (MSU) has been operationalized in Pune city by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Training of manpower under this unit was conducted jointly by PMC and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi, from 23rd to 25th September 2025.</p>
<p>On 25th September 2025, under the chairmanship of Hon. Municipal Commissioner Shri Naval Kishore Ram, a stakeholder coordination meeting was organized to share the objectives and functioning of MSU with various departments. The aim was to ensure better inter-departmental coordination for preventive measures in case of future outbreaks.</p>

<p>Representatives from the Airport Authority, Indian Meteorological Department, Public Health Laboratory, Railways, Food & Drug Administration, NIV, WHO, State Vector-borne Disease Control Department, Animal Husbandry, Pollution Control Board, medical colleges, doctor associations, and multiple PMC departments were present.</p>
<p>Hon. Commissioner Shri Naval Kishore Ram emphasized that the MSU will serve as an effective mechanism for timely detection, prevention, and control of infectious disease outbreaks. It will also provide technical training to health staff, volunteers and officers, thereby strengthening Pune’s public health system.</p>

<p>Additional Municipal Commissioner (G) Shri M. J. Pradeep Chandran highlighted that MSU will facilitate ward-wise disease mapping and data analysis, which will play a vital role in outbreak prevention.</p>
<p>Congratulating PMC, Dr. Shubhangi Kalsunge, Deputy Director, IDSP, NCDC, lauded Pune for establishing the MSU in a very short span and stated that it will be aligned with national-level epidemic control initiatives. Dr. Pradeep Awate, Technical Advisor, World Bank, also emphasized the importance of inter-departmental coordination under the “One Health” approach.</p>
<p>Health Officer Dr. Neena Borade mentioned that the MSU will provide scientific and technical reinforcement to the city’s healthcare services.</p>
<p>Finally, Hon. Commissioner Shri Naval Kishore Ram appreciated the contribution of all officials, staff, and stakeholders and extended his best wishes for the future success of this initiative.</p>
