Permission for machinery used in production is granted by the License and Sky Sign Department under Section 313. According to Schedule 18, Parts 1 to 4 of Section 313 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, machinery operating on electricity, water, or steam requires approval after submitting the necessary documents in the prescribed SP-5 form. These machinery permits must be renewed periodically by submitting the required documents in the SP-6 form.
For example, permits are issued for businesses involved in cloth dyeing, electroplating, spice production, brick and tile manufacturing, dynamite production, metal casting, fireworks, slaked lime, matchboxes, rubber products, paper, snuff, soap making, and tar processing.
Under Section 376(1)(d)(2), permits are also issued for businesses such as blacksmith work, metal sheet covering, brass work, glasswork, wood cutting mills, metalworking on lathes, machine laundries, carpentry workshops using electricity or other power sources, tire retreading, plastic manufacturing, and French polish production.
When an application is received for a business using machinery powered by electricity, water, or steam, the permit inspector conducts a site visit. The business owner is then informed about the required documents for the permit. After verifying these documents, the inspector forwards the application through the Municipal Assistant Commissioner for approval by the Deputy Commissioner of the concerned zone.
Once a permit is granted, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is issued for the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The business owner must then submit an application to MSEDCL to obtain electricity for the business.
