Major Pradeep Tathawade Udyan is a major landmark of Pune. It is developed and maintained by PMC's Garden Department. It was opened to public on October 31, 2002. A life-size statue of Major Pradeep Tathawade, who sacrificed his life fighting for the country with militants in Poonch district of Jammu in June 2000 and after whom the park is named, stands tall at the garden entrance.
Spread over 2.75 acres; it has 260-metre The garden includes several water fountains, children's play area and at the centre of the garden, there is an artificial pond with fish in it. A battle tank that was pressed into service during the lndo-Pak war (1971) was gifted to the PMC by the Indian Army. It is placed in the garden for visitors to view.
The visitors from the vicinity of areas like Dhanukar Colony, Bhusari Colony, Paud Road and Sinhagad Road regularly visit this garden. People regularly visit the garden to practice yoga and attend laughter club in the morning and jog in the evenings. Blessed with a lush green lawn, a cluster of trees and comfortable sitting arrangements, it is a haven for relaxation, especially for senior citizens.
- Stage Facing Lawn: A huge stage facing lawn is available to the citizens. Many cultural and social activities are organised here, as it has comfortable seating arrangement for citizens.
- Yoga Centre: A small yoga centre located in the middle of the garden is a treat for yoga enthusiasts, while a small pond with a variety of small fish sets this garden apart from the others. Children can be seen glued to the pond, trying to catch a glimpse of their favourite marine life.
- Variety of Trees: The park is dotted with mostly indigenous trees like Mango, Neem, Pimpal, Banyan, Amia, Cheery, Almond, Palash, Kanchan, Jamun, Bamboo and Bel are planted here. The garden also has varieties of roses, marigold, Dahlia, Zinnia, Jasmine, Shoeflower, jai-jui and chamak besides many different types of shrubs like bougainvillea.
Outside the park
The garden is maintained by PMC's Garden Department. There are no food stalls outside this garden. Outdoor games and pet animals are not allowed into it.
