Social Development Department Summary

<p>The Department of Urban Development Planning was established in 1984 in collaboration with UNICEF, focusing on the welfare of slum residents in Pune. The department undertook initiatives such as immunizing pregnant women and children under six, running kindergartens, and providing nutritious food.</p>
<p>In 1987, the department was merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation, and a separate division was formed. Its focus shifted towards supporting the poor and underprivileged citizens in slum areas, implementing various central and state government schemes under the SUP (Support to Urban Poor) program.</p>
<p>From 1991 to 1997, the Nehru Employment Scheme was implemented, offering vocational training along with loans and grants facilitated by banks. Between 1997 and 2000, a city-wide literacy campaign was launched under the National Literacy Mission to promote education among residents.</p>
<p>Since 2000, the department has continued to implement numerous welfare schemes from the Central and State Governments, as well as from the Pune Municipal Corporation. Additionally, various projects are being carried out in collaboration with other organizations.</p>
<p>As per the government resolution of 2014, the department has been renamed the Social Development Department.</p>

<li>Applications are screened and recommended (accepted / rejected) online by social workers.</li>
<li>Application verification (acceptance / rejection) is done online by the author department.</li>
<li>Hon. The application is approved (approved / rejected) by the account head online.</li>
<li>Accepted application bill is forwarded to the audit department for scrutiny (accepted / rejected).</li>
<li>Financial assistance is provided through DBT to eligible beneficiaries.</li>
