The Pune Municipal Corporation has made efforts to fulfill basic necessities such as public health, water supply, roads, electricity, and education while also preserving and promoting cultural heritage. By establishing the Heritage Cell, the Pune Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step forward. The Heritage Department is responsible for the conservation and preservation of historical monuments under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation. The department has conducted a survey of historical structures in Pune city by Intach institute and has categorized them into Heritage Grade I, II, and III lists.

- In Pune city, there are 79 Grade I, 82 Grade II, and 88 Grade III heritage monuments, totaling 249 heritage monuments. Among these, the following monuments are owned by Pune Municipal Corporation:

- Preserving and conserving private historical monuments-
The proposal for restoration and new construction of private historical monuments listed in Heritage Grade I, II, III is approved by the Heritage Committee. For this, the proposal is submitted through the Heritage Cell by a conservation architect to the Heritage Committee established by the government. The committee reviews this proposal and approves the appropriate proposal as per the rules.

According to the Ancient Monuments, Archaeological Sites, and Remains Act of 1958 and the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Amendment and Validation Act 2010
- Every area that begins from the limit of the protected area or protected monument, extending up to a distance of 100 meters in all directions, shall be the - Prohibited Area Zone.
- Every area that begins from the limit of the prohibited area in respect of national importance monuments and archaeological sites and remains, extending up to a distance of 200 meters in all directions, shall be the - Regulated Area Zone.
