Tips for Fire Safety for Children
Prevention from Fire and Burns
- Stay away from hot pots or objects.
Keep a safe distance from boiling water and hot oil.
Check the temperature of hot liquids before drinking them.
Stay away from gas stoves or fireplaces.
Care to Take with Electronic Devices:
- Do not use electronic devices without asking your parents.
Do not handle electronic devices if your clothes or shoes are wet.
If you find any wires or cords burning, immediately inform your parents.
Do not insert your fingers, toys, or any other objects into electrical sockets.
Firecracker Safety:
- Use a long wick to light firecrackers.
- Light firecrackers at a distance of at least one arm's length.
- Do not light firecrackers without an adult around.
- Wear fire-resistant cotton clothes when lighting firecrackers.
- If a firecracker does not light, do not approach it again.
- Light firecrackers in open fields away from houses and trees.
- Keep a bucket of sand with you while lighting firecrackers. It can be used to put out any fire.
Fire Safety:
- Keep burning candles or lamps away from furniture, beds, curtains, carpets, and other objects.
- Stay away from matchsticks and lighters.
- Extinguish candles and lamps before going to bed.
What to Do if There’s a Fire:
- Once you exit a burning house, do not go back inside.
- If you cannot see due to smoke, crawl and quickly exit the house.
- If you are inside a burning building, use stairs instead of the elevator to exit.
- Remember the contact numbers of Pune Fire Department (101) and Ambulance (108).
